Agenda Day Four and Five

Agenda Day Four and Five August 27-28, 2013

Students completed the IOWA Assessment Vocabulary and Reading.

Home Learning
Students complete Into the Wild review sheet.
Students complete definitions for the 1st page of Into the Wild vocabulary.
Students bring their Into the Wild to class next class; the Into the Wild test is scheduled NEXT class.

Buy and read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.

Agenda Day Five August 29 & 30, 2013

1. Demonstrate how to Create an Account to turnitin.com.
2. Students pair with a partner to review Into the Wild. Students then take the Into the Wild test.
3. Students pair with a partner to define words from Into the Wild. Find the word in the text, underline the sentence. If there is a specific context clue, identify the type on your definition sheet. (20 min.) Use your Academic Vocabulary booklet.
4. Students view the photograph on page 169 to respond to the following prompt.

Analyzing Visuals Viewing and Interpreting

This photograph was taken the day that President Kennedy died. How are the people's reactions similar to those that Cofer records in her story? Refer to pages 168-170. Quote from the text to prove your answer. (15 min.)

5. Review “American History” homework. Upcoming: prefixes, suffixes “Flocabulary”, ethos, pathos “Cinderella’s Stepsisters”

Create an account at turnitin.com. Submit your original SAT #1 sentences. Underline the word and its context clue. Identify the type of context clue. Remember to vary sentence structure. Refer to your handout.
