Agenda Day Twenty-One




EH I        Agenda Day Twenty-One October 15, 2013 Tues.                                         Ms. Lewis

Objective:   Identify, explain, analyze, and determine meaning from text
Benchmark:  RL.9.10.1 Cite strong and thorough evidence to support analysis of what the text says.

SL.9-19.1 Present information, findings, and supporting evidence clearly, concisely, and logically so listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, substance, and style are appropriate to purpose, audience, and task.
The lesson is aimed at helping students “improve oral and written communication, active listening skills, researching skills, and study skills.”

Essential Question: How does citing strong and thorough evidence from the text help us to analyze what the text says.

Higher Order Question:  How do we expand on points and develop them with adequate detail?

Activities:
INTRODUCTION:   Teacher explains objectives, introduces the Essential Question, and explains the relevance of the lesson and the importance of learning the concept.
MODELING:  “I  DO” Teacher models how to answer discussion questions using the text and completing an analysis chart.
GUIDED PRACTICE:  “WE DO” The teacher supports students while they try doing what was modeled.  Teacher guides students to independent practice by providing an opportunity to work in small groups and practice what was taught during the guided portion of the lesson).
  • Encourage student accountable talk during discussion.
  • Perform checks for understanding.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE “YOU DO” Students will independently practice oral and listening skills presenting their answers to the class.  The class will take notes on questions, text, and answers.
CLOSURE:  Teacher wraps up the lesson and helps students organize the information learned into a meaningful context.
  • Students complete Exit Slip reflecting on their success in fulfilling today’s objectives.
  • Help students connect today’s learning to their bigger goal in the course.
Home Learning: 
  • Final essay revisions were due for 3B Monday, Oct. 14th
  • Continue reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks Part Three; answer questions from handout that corresponds with pages you read.
  • Study for your Sat #2 Test. 
The SAT #2 test will be given for 2A & 4A Thursday, Oct. 17.  PSAT will be administered Wednesday, Oct. 16.
  • CGA tests will be administered Thursday & Friday, Oct. 17 & 18.
